CRST Shares Success of Customer Honored for Quality Products and Timely Delivery
CRST Van Expedited customer PMX Industries, based in Cedar Rapids, was recently recognized by the U.S. Mint for its quality and consistency of product and timeliness of delivery. As PMX's major carrier, CRST shares significantly in those accolades. "PMX management has made it clear that they feel we have contributed to their recent recognition by the Mint," said John Kapler, CRST's national account manager.
While PMX has been a customer since 1991, it did not become a heavy user of CRST's services until 1993. According to Kapler, CRST moved 1,530 loads for PMX in 1999, worth $1.4 million in revenue for CRST. PMX's business continues to grow significantly. Through August 2000, CRST has hauled 1,710 loads and Kapler expects PMX to account for $2.7 million in revenue by the end of 2000.
PMX provides the metal "strip" used to produce the new Sacajawea dollar coin and a large portion of the metal used to make quarters, dimes and nickels. John Mitchell, director of the U.S. Mint, commended PMX for delivering a high-quality product on time. Key to this timely delivery is CRST's use of dedicated teams to move the metal. In 1999, eight teams handled PMX deliveries; today 13 dedicated teams and three single drivers handle the PMX routes U.S. Mint plants and other PMX customers across the U.S.
By the end of the summer, one billion of the Sacajawea coins will be in circulation. PMX provided the metal strip used to make the coin, and CRST put the "pedal to the metal" to make sure it got to the Mint on time.
